FAQ

❄️ What are Onconeivia cooling caps for?

Onconeivia cooling caps are designed to help reduce hair loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The cold slows down blood circulation in the scalp, which limits the exposure of hair follicles to chemotherapy agents.

🧠 Do they really work?

Many clinical studies have shown that using cooling caps can significantly reduce hair loss, depending on the type of chemotherapy and the patient. At Onconeivia, our technology aims to optimise effectiveness while ensuring comfort during treatment.

📊 How effective are cooling caps?

Success rates vary depending on the chemotherapy protocol, but in some cases, more than 70% of patients retain a large portion of their hair. Our caps are developed to maximise this effectiveness, in collaboration with medical teams.

Is scalp cooling safe and approved?

Yes. Scalp cooling is a recognised method that has been used for years and validated by health authorities such as the FDA (United States) and European agencies. It is considered safe for the majority of patients.

👤 Who can use cooling caps?

Most patients undergoing chemotherapy can benefit, but eligibility depends on the type of treatment, the protocol used, and general health. It’s important to discuss it with your oncologist.

How long does it take to use cooling caps?

The cap is worn for about 30 to 45 minutes before the infusion, throughout the chemotherapy session, and up to 90 minutes after, depending on medical recommendations. The healthcare staff will support you every step of the way.

😬 Is it painful or uncomfortable?

The cold can be surprising at first, but the sensation usually subsides within a few minutes. Our caps are designed to provide maximum comfort, with an ergonomic shape and soft materials against the scalp.

⚠️ Are there any side effects from using cooling caps?

Side effects are rare. Some patients may experience headaches, chills, or temporary discomfort. These effects are generally mild and pass quickly.

🦱 Does it work on thick hair?

Yes, the caps can work on all hair types, including thick or curly hair. However, to maximise effectiveness, it’s sometimes recommended to wet the hair thoroughly before the session.

🧬 Is there an increased risk of metastasis with this method?

According to available studies, scalp cooling does not appear to increase the risk of metastasis in the skull or elsewhere. It’s an important question you can discuss openly with your oncologist.

🏥 Why aren’t cooling caps used everywhere yet?

The equipment requires specific logistics (machines, trained staff, appropriate protocols). Some hospitals are not yet equipped, but more and more facilities are showing interest. At Onconeivia, we help integrate this solution into oncology departments.

🎒 Can I bring my own cooling cap to the hospital?

It depends on your hospital’s policy. Some hospitals accept personal devices, while others do not. Talk to your care team. If needed, we can help them explore how to integrate Onconeivia into their care pathway.

🧼 How are the caps cleaned?

Onconeivia caps are designed to be easily disinfected between each patient, in line with strict hospital standards. Our teams train healthcare staff to ensure perfect hygiene.

🙋‍♀️ Can I ask to use an Onconeivia cap?

Yes, absolutely! Don’t hesitate to talk to your oncologist. If your hospital isn’t yet equipped, we can reach out to them and see together how to make our solution available.

📞 Who can I contact if I have more questions?
